Chew On This

“Fletcherism” was a late-19th century fad diet developed by a wealthy but overweight business man named Horace Fletcher. His fitness regimen required “industrious munching,” which meant that every mouthful of food had to be chewed between 30 and 70 times. John D. Rockefeller and the novelist Henry James were enthusiastic proponents of Fletcherism.
